Enquiries: Alex Crawford – info@mathewhalepubliclibrary.com or 0411 271 787

Event 2 – Church Growth through Christian Mentoring

It is easy in our world to privatise our faith or corporatise our church. For healthy growth we need to consider again how to train leaders for our congregations, who understand God’s purpose for the church and how to promote the pastoral care of its members. Wise mentoring achieves both these goals, and must take a more prominent role in the ministry of our churches. This lecture will provide encouragement, skills, and a network to get started in this important task.

Date & Time: Tuesday, October 11th 2016 at 7.30PM
Location: St Francis’ Anglican Theological College, 233 Milton Rd, Milton

Rhys is the Dean of Missional Leadership and Lecturer in Christian Thought at Ridley College, Melbourne. Rhys joined the Faculty at Ridley in 2004, after working in both parish and student ministry.

He was ordained priest in the Diocese of Melbourne in 1997, and has served on the ministry teams of both small and large Melbourne Anglican parishes.

He would one day like to write a book entitled “The Best Book in the History of the World on Mentoring.”

Rhys’s doctoral thesis investigated the ecclesiology of Jonathan Edwards. He has been on several occasions a Visiting Fellow in the Yale Divinity School, and leads the Jonathan Edwards Center for Australia, housed at Ridley, which sponsors the study of evangelical history, and the texts and thought of Edwards. Rhys counts amongst his other heroes Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Billy Graham.

He is serious about drinking coffee, mentoring and travel, and he enjoys walks with his Staffordshire terrier, Gustav.
